Words are not small things.
They are not fleeting,
or empty,
or without consequence.

They carry weight.
They hold power.
They leave an imprint.

What you speak—
over yourself,
over others,
over your life—
does not disappear.

It takes root.

Words of Light

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” – Proverbs 18:21

Reflection

There is a quiet responsibility that comes with having a voice.

Not because you must always say the right thing,
but because what you say—especially consistently—has the power to shape what grows.

Words are seeds.

They do not always produce immediate results, but over time, they take hold. They form beliefs, influence perspective, and create the environment in which you—and those around you—live.

This is why the words spoken to Mary mattered.

Mary, a young woman carrying the promise of Jesus, was met by Elizabeth, her older relative, who recognized and affirmed what God was doing within her.

When she carried something sacred—something uncertain, life-altering, and beyond her full understanding—Elizabeth did not respond with fear, doubt, or questioning.

She spoke blessing.

She recognized what was being formed, even before it was visible. Her words strengthened Mary’s faith and affirmed what God had already placed within her.

This is what it means to speak life.

It is not about ignoring reality or pretending everything is perfect. It is about choosing words that align with truth, possibility, and growth—even in the presence of uncertainty.

And this begins with how you speak to yourself.

Because before your words reach anyone else, they are shaping you.

What are you saying in quiet moments?
What language do you use when you feel uncertain, tired, or stretched?
Do your words reinforce fear—or do they create space for hope?

The way you speak internally becomes the tone of your external voice.

And from there, it expands.

Your words can encourage someone who is ready to give up.
They can soften a moment that feels tense.
They can affirm something in another person that they have not yet fully seen in themselves.

This is not small work.

This is creative work.

To speak life is to participate in shaping what grows.

So speak with awareness.
Speak with care.
Speak with intention.

Because every word you release carries the potential to either build—or diminish.

And the fruit of those words will, in time, return.

Pause and Consider...

  • What kind of language do I use when speaking to myself in difficult moments?
  • Where can I be more intentional about speaking encouragement and truth to others?
  • What would change if I chose words that support growth instead of reinforcing fear?

Affirmation

My words carry life, truth, and intention.
I speak with wisdom, care, and awareness.
What I say creates space for growth and renewal.

What you speak today
does not end today.

It continues—
in what grows,
in what shifts,
in what takes root.

So choose your words
as if they matter.

Because they do.

Peace,

Rita
