When I cannot stand, the Spirit lifts.

Words of Light

“The Spirit helps us in our weakness.”
— Romans 8:26 (NIV)

Reflection

There are seasons when the strength we once depended on feels depleted.

Seasons when exhaustion settles deep into the body and soul.
When the storm feels heavier than expected.
When grief lingers.
When uncertainty stretches longer than we imagined.
When even getting through the day can feel like more than we have strength to carry.

In those moments, we often pressure ourselves to push harder.
To hold everything together.
To keep striving as though endurance alone can save us.

But grace speaks differently.

There are times when God does not ask us to push through.
He asks us to surrender into being carried.

The Spirit does not shame our weakness.
He meets us there.

He lifts where we sag.
He steadies where fear shakes us.
He breathes where our prayers feel too weary to form words.
He remains present when our own strength feels insufficient.

Weakness is not failure in the Kingdom of God.
It is often the place where divine support becomes most visible.

The world teaches us to admire self-sufficiency.
But Spirit-led living reminds us that we were never created to carry life entirely on our own.

You are not carrying yourself alone.

Even now, the unseen hand of God continues guiding your steps.

Sometimes the holiest thing we can do is stop fighting so hard to prove our strength and allow ourselves to rest in God’s care.

Being carried is not passive resignation.
It is trust.

It is the sacred recognition that grace can sustain what striving cannot.

Grace sustains what striving cannot.

In weary seasons, we remain anchored in grace rather than fear.

There are moments when peace arrives not because the storm has ended, but because the Spirit gently carries us through it.

Like wind beneath fragile wings,
God’s presence continues moving us forward —
sometimes quietly,
sometimes invisibly,
but always faithfully.

And perhaps that is the invitation today:

To loosen your grip.
To soften your striving.
To breathe deeply without needing to solve everything immediately.

You do not have to force yourself forward through every difficult season.

There are times when Spirit simply carries you.

And even if you cannot yet see where the path is leading,
Love still knows the way.

This is the kind of rest that grows when we stop reaching for certainty and begin trusting what holds us —
rest that does not come from effort,
but from being carried.

This devotional reflects on being carried by the Spirit when strength runs out and rest becomes an act of trust.

Pause and Consider...

  • Where in my life do I feel exhausted from trying to carry too much alone?
  • What would surrender look like for me in this season?
  • How has striving shaped the way I respond to weakness?
  • Where might God already be carrying me, even if I have not fully noticed it?
  • What would change if I allowed myself to rest without guilt?

Affirmation

I am carried by Spirit.
I do not walk alone.
God’s grace sustains me, steadies me, and gently carries me forward.

Peace,

Rita
