Confidence is not proven in isolation.
It is revealed in proximity.
It shows up
when you are surrounded by brilliance,
when you are standing next to power,
when you are face-to-face
with someone who shines.
And in that moment—
you do not shrink.
You stand.
Words of Light
“Blessed is she who believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.”
— Luke 1:45 (NIV)
Reflection
There is a quiet test that happens when you encounter greatness in others.
Not the kind of greatness that intimidates—but the kind that is undeniable. The kind that is radiant, confident, and fully expressed.
In those moments, something within you responds.
Sometimes, it is admiration.
Sometimes, it is inspiration.
And sometimes—if you are not careful—it becomes comparison.
But the story of Elizabeth and Mary offers a different response.
Elizabeth, an older woman long rooted in her own journey, and Mary, a young woman newly carrying the promise of Jesus, met in a moment that could have invited comparison.
When Mary came to Elizabeth carrying something sacred—something life-changing—Elizabeth did not question her own worth. She did not withdraw, compete, or measure herself against what Mary carried.
She rejoiced.
She recognized the presence of something holy and honored it—while remaining fully rooted in who she was.
This is what confidence looks like in its truest form.
It is not loud.
It is not defensive.
It does not need to prove itself.
It is steady.
Confidence allows you to stand in rooms where others are gifted, powerful, and accomplished—and still feel grounded in your own identity.
Because you understand something essential:
Someone else’s light does not diminish yours.
It reveals what is possible.
When you are secure in who you are becoming, you can celebrate without comparison. You can honor without shrinking. You can witness greatness without losing your place.
This is the posture of a woman who knows herself.
And in that knowing, something shifts.
Comparison loses its grip.
Jealousy has no place to land.
And what remains is connection, encouragement, and shared elevation.
Because true confidence does not isolate.
It aligns.
It recognizes that there is room for many expressions of brilliance—and that each one adds to the whole.
So when you find yourself in the presence of greatness, do not retreat.
Stand.
Receive what it reflects back to you.
Let it remind you of your own becoming.
And allow it to call you forward—
not into competition,
but into alignment.
Pause and Consider...
- How do I respond when I encounter greatness in others—do I celebrate or compare?
- Where might I be shrinking instead of standing confidently in who I am?
- What would it look like to honor both my journey and the journeys of others without comparison?
Affirmation
I stand confidently in who I am.
I celebrate the greatness in others without losing myself.
There is room for my light to shine.
You were never meant
to dim your light
to stand beside someone else’s glow.
You were meant
to recognize it,
honor it,
and shine with it.
Peace,
Rita
