The Journey Through: A Holy Week Series

What He Walked Through… and What We Walk Through Now
Reflections by Rita Lynn Berry, EdS, LCMHC

This 8-part devotional series traces the spiritual, emotional, and human terrain of Holy Week. Each reflection invites you to walk with Jesus through His final days—and to recognize the echoes of His journey in your own: betrayal, silence, grief, surrender, and resurrection.

Day 1 – Palm Sunday: The Welcome Parade That Led to the Cross

As Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a colt, the crowd shouted praises—but they didn’t fully understand what kind of King He was. Palm Sunday invites us to examine what kind of Savior we’re really expecting… and what surrender truly looks like.

Day 2 – Monday: Turning Over Tables — Sacred Disruption

Jesus entered the temple and turned over the tables—not in anger, but in holy urgency. His actions call us to examine what needs clearing in our own lives to make room for the sacred.

Day 3 – Tuesday: Teaching in Tension – Holding the Message in the Middle

Jesus taught boldly in the temple while tension stirred around Him. His words were clear, but the crowd was divided. This day reminds us that truth often lives in tension—and we’re called to hold the message even when the moment feels uncertain.

Day 4 – Wednesday: The Quiet Before the Storm

Scripture is nearly silent on this day, but the silence speaks volumes. In the stillness, betrayal is forming, decisions are being made, and the cross draws near. This is the space between the action—where quiet can be holy… or haunting.

Day 5 – Thursday (Maundy Thursday): The Weight of the Table

On this night, bread was broken and betrayal was sealed. Jesus washed feet, shared a final meal, and carried the weight of love, loss, and legacy. Maundy Thursday invites us to sit at the table with both intimacy and truth.

Day 6 – Good Friday: It Is Finished — But Not Over

The cross was brutal, and the sky went dark. Yet even in death, Jesus was not defeated. Good Friday reminds us that endings can still hold purpose—and that what feels finished may simply be waiting for resurrection.

Day 7 – Saturday: The Silence Between

The tomb was closed. The crowd had scattered. This day sits in stillness—between sorrow and hope, death and life. Saturday invites us to wait in the unknown, to honor the silence, and to trust what we cannot yet see.

Day 8 – Resurrection Sunday: The Stone Was Rolled Away

The grave could not hold Him. Resurrection Sunday breaks through with light, love, and new life. The stone was rolled away—not just from the tomb, but from every place we thought was sealed by sorrow. Hope lives here.
